Welcome to the New Children's Area!

Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who helped us make the "big move" Tuesday evening. The result is fabulous! Many thanks also to all the volunteers who've been in and out this week, helping to move the books back to their homes. We absolutely could not have done it without you. And the sunlight streaming into the new children's area brightens up the entire library.

Stop in soon to check out the changes, and mark your calendars to attend the Open House on October 9, 2008, to celebrate the unveiling of the new family room.

White-Out

Thanks to the members of LIGHT who helped with the first step of re-painting our little yellow house (aka The Big Cheese) in the children's department. With the new area, we decided a fresh design was in order. So during their weekly meeting the teens rolled and brushed all the sides with primer. Everything's white right now, but it'll soon be Besore's version of the Magic Tree House!

Pardon Our Emptiness! We're Gettin' Prettied Up for You!

That's right! We're getting a makeover! The soon-to-be unveiled children's area will be completed by the 45th Anniversary Open House on October 9. However, before that happens, the children's picture books need flipped with the children's chapter books and non-fiction. That means lots of books in boxes and in different places until the shelves are moved. Just to answer a few of the questions that have been flying around lately:

* No, we are not getting rid of the paperback honor books. They're just in bins until we finish moving.

* The children's fiction and non-fiction are currently underneath the adult shelves.

* The library will be closed at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23 for the great moving of the shelves, but will reopen on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.

Thanks to volunteers from Jerr-Dan and several local families and churches for providing the muscle!

Say Ahh for Super Reader!

Super Reader flew into Besore Library Tuesday evening to delight a host of area children. Almost 40 children crowded into our children's area for an evening story hour. Super Reader, dressed in his superhero attire, held the audience captive with raps, songs, and stories. The highlight was the reading of Super Reader's own book, Say Ahh! The Teeth Book. Each child who attended took home a free book, a toothbrush, and other goodies, courtesy of sponsors.

A Beary Fun Storytime

Today was the first Preschool Storytime! Miss Rose and nineteen 3-5 year olds read Goldie Socks and the Three Libearians, shook their sillies out, and made the cover of their own book. If you miss out on the fun, join us Wednesday at 10 a.m. for a repeat of the program.

Teens—Earn Your Community Service Credit!

We're looking for a few good teens (13-18 years old) to join LIGHT teen board. It's an easy way to earn your community serivce credit to graduate or just an excuse to hang out with your friends. You attend meetings on Mondays from 3:00-4:00 p.m. from September through May. Once the school year is over, your hours are done! You'll get to pick out books for the library, help design our Myspace page (www.myspace.com/teensoflight), attend programs like game afternoons and come up with ideas for programs like the henna tattoo party we had this summer, and give your opinions about anything and everything related to the library.

Just ask Andrea at the front desk for more information or pick up one of the bright blue brochures in the teen area. You have to fill out a short application on the brochure, and the first meeting is Monday, September 15 in the History Room of the library.
